"We don't make friends we grow family."
We run for Teresa, on the east coast, on the west coast, and in several countries around the world because she brought us together and made us family.
Like a true Navy sailor, when Teresa was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013, she adjusted her sails and charted a new course, remaining set on her goals and focused on her family and her friends. While continuing a successful Navy career that culminated in her assuming command of the USS Cape Saint George in 2017, despite her diagnosis, Teresa continued to run and to tri. Eventually, she got almost all of us into running--5ks, 10ks, halfs, and even full marathons for her husband Dave, her brother Thomas, her sister-in-law Mandy, and close friend Suzanne. Her daughter and her daughter's best friends follow in her footsteps, leading our next generation of runners too. Teresa ran beside us, sometimes pulling us along, or ran ahead just so she could be at the finish line to cheer us on as we crossed.
As she said, "The race is now coming to its finish but I am glad I was there to put on the bib and go out there and run." Her race ended on April 15, 2018, but we run because we know she lives on in the family of friends she brought together and we know that she runs with us, every step of the way.
