Please help me support National Ovarian Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too.
Together, we can make a difference!
Here's my story and why I began participating:
In September 2017, I began spotting regularly with otherwise no notable symptoms. It was happening every other week which at first wasn't super unusual for me because I've always had an off menstrual cycle and even had a diagnosis of PCOS years earlier. Honestly, I brushed it off for a while and waited for it to go away, but it didn't stop so I went to my doctor to get checked out. It took a couple months of diagnostic testing - blood work, ultrasound and finally, an MRI - to conclude I had a mass in my right ovary which would probably need to be removed along with my ovary. They had no way of knowing the complexity of the mass until a biopsy was done. I decided to visit an oncologist for a 2nd opinion and she agreed with my doctor's diagnosis. Laparoscopic surgery was scheduled within a couple weeks. During surgery the tumor was found to be malignant, but thankfully I was one of the extremely lucky ones and the tumor was stage 1A - it was slow growing, had not spread outside of the ovary, caught early and very treatable. The tumor along with my right ovary and tube were removed. Subsequent scans and blood work have remained clear.
On an even happier note, almost 4 months to the date of my surgery I found out I was pregnant and had no complications or issues of any kind during the entire pregnancy. In March 2019 I gave birth to a healthy baby boy! My doctor had said I should be fine to get pregnant with one ovary, but I definitely didn't expect it to happen that quickly. Not even sure I believed it until it actually happened :)
