Help Break the Silence!

Lindsey McCormack

Lindsey McCormack

The world gained a beautiful angel on July 16, 2016 after her 6 1/2 year journey with ovarian cancer. My Mom, Patrice Marie Oliver, was my heart and soul and shaped me into the woman I am today. I like to write something new each year for the race, something about my Mom others didn't know, or to just share a little about her and the amazing woman she was. This year I am sharing a poem I wrote about my Mom. I wrote this poem for the day we spread her ashes over the Blue Ridge Mountains. She LOVED the mountains especially when the leaves changed. It gives me comfort knowing she is all around me and gives me strength to run and raise awareness to help break the silence against ovarian cancer.

You are the mountains, valleys, hills and trees
You are the flowing rivers that lead to the seas
You are the sun, the moon, and the stars that glisten at night
You are our sunrise, sunset and our guiding light
When a thunderstorm rolls in and the storm winds blow
We know you are the beautiful teal in the rainbow to follow
You are everywhere to us, and today everywhere you will be
We will always remember today, our beautiful angel being set free
