2020 has not turned out to be like any other year in recent (or remote) memory. The CoVid 19 pandemic has changed life as we know it in both monumental and subtle ways.
But the challenges facing women with Ovarian Cancer have not changed; if anything they have become more difficult.
I am once again the captain of Anita's Team Gold and scheduled to participate in this year's National Ovarian Cancer Coalition event to honor and remember my mom, Anita Stein. Obviously, the CoVid 19 pandemic has affected many charitable organizations and NOCC's events have not been immune. For the health and safety of all the participants, many of whom are actively in treatment and are immunosuppressed, this year's walk has been changed to a virtual event: Together in Teal - No Boundaries and will take place nationally on Saturday, September 26, 2020.
After last year's successful fund-raising effort, I joined the Volunteer Leadership Committee so that I could make more of an impact locally about where funds are being allocated. A large part of NOCC's mission is to help manage concerns and hurdles for current patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones. These services include providing meals, counseling, peer-to-peer support, lecture series, educational resources, online physician forums, nutritional support and local support groups (both in-person and virtually).
I recognize that so many people have been adversely affected by the pandemic. I also know that everyone has been inundated by charities asking for donations this year. I hope that you will consider donating to this one because I have seen first-hand the programs and women that benefit. I will be grateful for any amount that is given to support my mom's legacy.
Together, we can make a difference!
