End the Silence - Christine Frederick

Christine Frederick

Christine Frederick

Welcome to my fundraising page. Bob and I have contributed to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition for almost 10 years in honor of my aunt and a colleague's wife who died of ovarian cancer. It was a surreal moment for me in February of this year when I found myself contacting NOCC and asking for information on my recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The materials they provided me were extremely valuable and enabled me to better understand my diagnosis, the treatments that awaited me and most importantly provided me with a list of questions to consider and discuss with my doctors.

For years, ovarian cancer has been called the "silent killer" because it is difficult to detect, especially in the early stages. I am very fortunate. I am one of the few women to be diagnosed as Stage 1 (only 15%). I attribute my early diagnosis to regular medical visits, knowing my body and risk factors as well as trusting my instincts. While there has been a lot of research to develop a screening test for ovarian cancer, there hasn't been much success so far. I want to end the silence. I want to fund research that will identify more accurate screening and increase the survival rights and eventually end cancer (total optimism). In the meantime, we an also end the silence by talking about the risks and warning signs of ovarian cancer so that women are getting medical attention sooner. In the past the color TEAL was just another pretty color in my life, now it is my color. It has new meaning for me and I want the women in our lives to "Take Early Action & Live" (NOCC)

I recently completed my chemo treatments and have entered the post-treatment phase visiting my oncologists every 3 months and being closely monitored over the next 5 years. My body is re-building to what I call my new "normal." I'm excited about joining the walk on Sunday, September 8 in South Boston as a Survivor.

Please help me support National Ovarian Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's great cause!

Together, we can make a difference!
