My sister, Ellen, was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer in July 2014. After extensive abdominal surgery and six rounds of intensive chemotherapy, she was in remission. However, a year later, the disease recurred, as it so often does, and Ellen continued treatment for another two and a half years. Ellen succumbed to her disease on June 8, 2018 after a four year battle.

Ellen fought her illness with dignity, positivity, and strength and never let her cancer slow her down. She traveled the world taking spectacular photographs, and donated the funds she raised through the sale of her photography to support early detection research.

According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 35-74. Given the vague symptoms of ovarian cancer, most women are diagnosed in late stages when five-year survival rates are as low as 20%.

I’m committed to keeping Ellen’s memory alive by educating women about ovarian cancer and raising money to support early detection research.

Thank you for honoring my sister’s memory though your support.

I can’t even express in words how sorry I am. My best friend Mara died from ovarian cancer. It is such an insidious disease. Hearts will be broken until a cure is found. Sending love.
